Reiki for Kids

It’s safe to say the past few years have taken a toll on all of us. As a collective, we have experienced a pandemic and the many struggles that came with it. The amount of stress from this alone has impacted every area of life. As adults, we can acknowledge the resulting continued fatigue.

What about our kids?

Some of our kids missed out on milestone social events and graduations. Some may not even remember a world before Covid. Our kids have been as resilient as possible, and even the strongest, most supported have had their struggles. Between attempts to learn from home, hybrid models, and eventually getting back into a somewhat normal school routine, kids have experienced a great deal of unprocessed stress.

What can we do about it?

Schools do their best to support kids with intellectual and physical growth along with emotional well-being. Many amazing teachers, administrators, and support staff at schools care about students far beyond their test scores. Schools can only do so much to support kids, and the number of students with challenges has increased drastically. The system and people are overwhelmed and unable to provide the level of care they would like to.

Parents as a collective are feeling the same kind of strain. We deal with our own levels of burnout, anxiety, and overwhelm. How can we be the unwavering support our child needs? It takes an incredible amount of energy to be physically and emotionally available for the needs of a child all day, every day.

There is hope.

Reiki can help. I’m not saying Reiki is the lone solution to all the pain and stress of the pandemic and recent events. I am saying it has helped me and my family tremendously, and I believe it can help yours too.

It starts with you as a caregiver. My favorite practices to help me stay centered are yoga, Reiki, nutritious food, hydration, sufficient rest, time in nature, and finding joy with loved ones. When I neglect these basics, I experience feelings of resentment, anxiety, guilt, anger, and apathy. None of those feel good or make me a great parent. I do my best to stay consistent, so I show up as the best version of myself: for me, my family, and everyone with whom I come into contact.

Modeling these self-care practices shows kids that it’s important to take care of themselves. I’m far from perfect, and my kids can tell when I’ve been stretched too thin or when too much time has passed since my last yoga class. Daily self-Reiki is a practice that is so amazing when I stay dedicated, and yet can be so easy to put off. It’s a journey, and my kids are watching as I keep learning along the way.

After my Reiki trainings and attunements, my daughter started asking for Reiki. She is very receptive and has experienced numerous benefits. She often asks for it before bed, when she’s sick, if she’s hurt, or when she’s feeling worried about something that keeps her from sleeping well. She has been open to the energy from the beginning, and thinks it’s “so cool” that she can feel Reiki and witness how it helps her.

She is full of wisdom. You may notice similar wisdom in all children if you take time to hear the truth behind their words, emotions, and behaviors. For example, a child having a meltdown may be overtired, hungry, or overstimulated. It’s also possible that they have a deep unaddressed fear they don’t yet have the language or maturity to communicate. It can take a lot of love and presence to get to the root of what is really causing the behavior. Reiki can help.

As a mom, I use Reiki for my family every day. It’s a gift I love to give, because it fills me up, rather than leave me feeling depleted. When I cook, I bless our food with Reiki. My son says he can taste the love I add to our meals. When one of my family members is sick, I send Reiki to their vitamins and essential oils and draw them a bath with Reiki-infused water. I clear the energy in our home frequently with Reiki. Sharing Reiki with loved ones doesn’t take extra time; it’s all about intention and tapping into a feeling of love.

What would it be like if at least one caregiver in every family were able to share positive Reiki vibes throughout their home? I dream of attuning as many parents as possible to Reiki and teaching them how to incorporate it into daily life for themselves and their families.

We can make the world a better place, one family at a time.

In the meantime, know that Reiki is safe for people of all ages: infants, children, teens, and the full range of adulthood. Reiki can cause no harm and treatment only takes place when invited. Since Reiki is spiritually guided life force energy, it works on multiple layers to bring physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual healing where it’s needed most.

Consider scheduling a session for yourself or your child to see the benefits firsthand. If you have questions, or would like to have a session together, please reach out to me. I’m happy to arrange for a session experience that meets your needs. If you’d like to dive in and learn more about becoming attuned to bring Reiki into your daily life, send me a message here.

Take time to do something kind for yourself today, no matter your life stage or role. Be gentle and give yourself grace.

Sending love and light.
